Summary
Spirit is the largest youth care organisation in the Amsterdam area. The roots of the organisation’s long history can be traced back to the establishment of the first City Orphanage in Amsterdam in 1520! Every year, approximately 3,000 young people make use of the services that Spirit offers. The organization helps young people up to the age of eighteen, and also provides assistance to their parents, guardians and other caregivers. Spirit’s activities include placing minors in foster homes, helping young people who are having trouble at school and also managing a detention facility for young people who have had a run in with the law. Spirit has more than 1,000 staff members working in a network of regional offices and smaller, local offices.
